Studying A Levels (Biology, Chemistry, Maths & AS Physics)
"Quite a lot of people ask me, why I chose to go to an international school, being a British student. Well, personally I never call it international, I much prefer the word cosmopolitan. I grew up in South London so I'm quite used to integrating with people from all parts of the world. I really enjoyed that, hence I wanted to continue that experience. The five-term A level programme, which I believe is quite unique as normal British schools don’t offer this, allowed me to take a mini gap year before I commenced in January. I strongly recommend this course, it's quicker and very well organised. Nicer on the wallet too!
I chose the Bellerbys Oxford branch specifically because it’s a smaller yet equally vibrant city. The fact that is far from my parents played a role too! Even though it's relatively lively, it's still calm enough to study and enjoy a peaceful education. The beauty of the city also deserves a full round of applause. It’s easy to travel around the town, no complicated bus time tables to remember. We also get a bus to London every up to 10 minutes 24/7.
The teachers are really nice and totally competent. Most of them are academics – doctors or similar. The teaching styles are brilliant – I don’t have any complaints. They’ve really helped me with my university applications too.
During the school week I tend to go home to my host family and relax. At the weekend we go swimming, ice skating or simply to the gym. The school offer a discounted rate for a local gym, however I prefer to get my own membership at another gym, it’s close to my host family so less travel. It’s very easy to make friends here as you mix with the other students more. The school is such a small community you get to mingle with people from two years below you, it’s great!
I love my host family – they’re brilliant! Both are qualified medical personnel. I’m very lucky to have them. It’s a nice house with a few other international students. We get lots of different types of dishes as there is such a mix of nationalities. I’m never hungry!
I’m hoping to study at Imperial College London if I get the required grades. I would like eventually to have a career in either Neurosurgery or Vitreo-Retinal surgery. I’m thinking about working in the US – either Chicago or New York. You have to study longer to do so but it would be worth it as a lot of my family live there and pay is much much MUCH better!"
